Ghost - The Future Is A Foreign Land (Single and Cartoon Review)

Image credit: Still frame from the Mary On A Cross Official cartoon music video by Ghost

If you've followed me awhile, you know how much I love Ghost. I've called them "Scooby Doo Psychedelic rock with a Satanic twist" for years, so the fact that they actually released a "Scooby Doo-esque" music video for their new song "The Future Is A Foreign Land" and for "Mary On A Cross" is absolutely hilarious and beautiful. I mean even just looking at that one frame and it's apparent that they were going for that kind of a style. This couldn't have been any better. It even has the trippy chase sequence! I've heard some people who are less than fans call them Scooby Doo music in a scathing kind of way, so doing not one, but two videos, had to have been a "fuck you" to all those people, and I just love that. Speaking of love, what's not to love? They're hilarious, sexy, have some of the richest lore of any band, and their music is catchy as hell!

The new song itself absolutely fantastic. It's talking about what the future holds, and how scary things could get. But in typical Ghost fashion, it's also a love song giving a message of hope and that Papa is here for us, and we should all love each other. It's all illustrated by a cartoon of Papa and Sister's relationship and picturing a future where she had survived. I can't tell you the last time a damn cartoon made me cry. But here we are. This is just so good and so powerful. Leave it to Ghost to be able to not only make a fantastic cartoon in the style of Scoob, but to also have it make such an impact.
