Whoa holy shit y'all, I'm absolutely thrilled that I got to interview Leaether Strip! This Danish electroindustrial project is legendary!
Q: Tell the readers who you are and what you do A: I am Claus Larsen, Danish and I have a 1 man band called Leæther Strip, this years marks its 35th anniversary
Q: What is your favorite road snack? A: Salty crackers
Q: If you were a salad, what dressing would it have? A: Anything very spicy
Q: Tell a story about a song that had a big impact on you when you were growing up. A: Back in 1979 I was a teenage punk. Went to a record store to see what was new in in the punk 7" section. The store was about to close and I found a 7" with a guy called Fad Gadget called "Back To Nature". Never heard of him, and the coverart was amazing, so I bought it. When I got home I was very surprised that this was not really punk, it was electronic, and that single changed my whole view on music and a few months after that I bought my first synth, cause I needed to learn to play one of those machines.
Q: How did you develop your sound? A: Hard work, a strong creative nerve, and a very fucked up and dark mind.
Q: Who is your dream collab? A: Marc Almond (soft Cell)
Q: If you couldn't do what you do, what would you do? A: Anything that involved animal care
Q: What is your motivation? A:To write the perfect song, perform my songs and to love and be loved
Q: Have you had any weird fan interactions? A:Yeah there is one that sticks out. One fine summers day, I was sleeping like a baby, when I woke and two people standing in my bedroom, next to my bed "Hello Claus". It was two German fans who had found my address, and in the village we don't really lock our doors, so when I wasn't answering they just walked in. I ended up making them breakfast. Otherwise I have very very nice and polite fans.
